How do I measure for my Timber Fireplace Mantel?
The length (A) is the distance across your fireplace that you would like your mantel shelf to span. This is personal preference. It can span the same distance as your fireplace face, extend slightly beyond the face, or be somewhat shorter.
The width (B) is the distance from the fireplace face out to the front edge of the mantel shelf. This is typically 10-12 inches.
The thickness (C) of the mantel shelf is the distance from the top edge of the shelf to the bottom edge. Our standard thickness for a plank-style mantel is 3-4 inches; 1/2 log styles are typically 5-7 inches thick at the center.

How do I install my Timber Mantel?
Since these are mantel shelves (also called cap mantels), they set on the top of your fireplace face or on supports (corbels) that have been prebuilt into your fireplace face. Check your local building codes for the distance the mantel should be from the firebox.
-
Do you provide corbels?
(small log supports or wood brackets)
Corbels can be custom-crafted for your specific needs. Options include natural-shaped log rounds half rounds, block-style or your own design. We an your ship your corbels first, as they are often built-in to the fireplace. Corbels are priced separately from your mantel.
-
How is the Timber Mantel finished?
All mantels are kiln dried, then hand-sanded to a silky finish. You can purchase either a finished or unfinished mantel--finished mantels will be sanded to a silky smoothness and finished to a luster of your choosing. Unfinished mantels will be cut to size and rough sanded.

What about your guarantee?
Because the Timber Mantels are a product of nature, they often have natural bumps, lumps, dips, cracks and crevices. We feel this is what gives them their beauty and uniqueness. Some additional checking (cracking) may occur once the mantel shelf is installed, depending on the heat and humidity in your environment. This will not affect the integrity of the mantel, and again we feel adds to its character. If you like, we can e-mail you a digital photo of your piece before shipping.
If you are not completely satisfied with your Timber Fireplace Mantel, we will gladly take it back and refund your purchase price. We ask that you inform us of your intent and return the mantel within 30 days of purchase*
*Mantel must be properly crated to prevent shipping damage, freight prepaid, and insured.
